The Delta Folk rolled out their best for Earth Day 2008 at Downsview Park in Toronto. The tight and entertaining unit featured lead vocalist Dan Kabe on acoustic guitar, Terry Crawford on drums, Katrina Chen on keyboards, and Jozef Pilasanovic on guitar and vocals. Said Dan, “It's a pleasure for our band to play Earth Day. Earth Day is like New Year's for us because it commemorates environmentalism, and people who care and understand the importance of being good to the Earth. This event totally exemplifies what we're about as a band. The crowd was primarily made up of fellow environmentalists, concerned citizens, families with children, music fans, and volunteers, so for us it felt like entertaining the troops!”
The Event was well-organized with everything laid out in close proximity near Sheppard Ave and John Drury Dr. All the organizers and staff were extremely helpful over the day's proceedings, and made everyone feel welcome. Delta Folk would like to thank all event staff and organizers for a terrific time!
The Day was also a reflection of how far we've come, and how far we have to go. Support for Delta Folk rallies around advocacy for decreasing toxic emmissions, such as rising CO2 levels, which are a serious threat to life on the planet as revealed through Global Warming and its effect on our climate and world eco-systems. We tip our hats to everyone who participates in Earth Hour and Earth Day Events around the world, and to those who volunteer their time to the betterment of others and to the Earth. Doing nothing is part of the problem, but we can all turn down a new road and become Part of the Solution. Happy Earth Day and have a great 2008!
